What are Meta tags? 
Information about a document that is read by a web server or search engine spider. It could be indexing information for search and ranking purposes, document creation and expiry information.
Your most important tags (in terms of ranking) are: Title tags, Meta description tags and Meta keyword tags.
Meta tags are always contained in the <HEAD></HEAD> element.
